Mamma's Pup

Mammas Pup is a regular face around Mammas HQ. Mammas Pup is actually a schnauzer but will never be able to have the traditional schnauzer cut due to being albino.

"We didn't know Mammas Pup was albino until the first visit to the vet where we were told straight away that the pink nose and ice blue eyes were because albino dogs have no pigment, so Mammas Pup isn't a white dog as we were told. Not that it matters as Mammas Pup has such a sweet nature and it just made us more in love. We've always liked things that are unique, just like Mammas HQ"

Why albino dogs are extra special:

  • Albino dogs are sensitive to light, prone to burning in the sun and skin cancer

  • Some albino dogs are born blind or visually impaired, and/or deaf or have hearing problems

  • All albino dogs must wear sunscreen on exposed pink areas of skin like their noses and some albino dogs even wear sunglasses due to photosensitivity

  • Albino dogs are quite rare, they have two copies of the merle gene and this makes them prone to other health issues that can’t be fixed such as with vision or hearing

  • All albino dogs are unable to produce melanin which produces the dark pigment that gives other dogs colour to their fur, nose, skin and eyes

  • Furthermore, every species has albinos, the most rare is the gorilla as only one has been known to have existed, but you even get albino kangaroos and zebras – want to know more visit Treehugger to see the top 20 rare albino animals

More about Mamma's Pup:

Since being welcomed into the household Mamma's Pup has brought sweetness and light each and everyday. Living with a toddler (aka Mamma's Son) has probably been challenging as looking like a teddy bear means said toddler thinks its OK to pick up the pup by its fur. Don't worry Mamma is always close by to supervise and say a stern "no." Luckily Mamma's Pup is just so soft and gentle and has not bitten, growled or snarled but just wants a cuddle after the manhandling shock. Arriving housetrained (with a few little accidents now and then of course), able to use a doggy door and even knowing how to bring a ball back with no training (amazing heh!), Mamma's Pup has fit right in and quickly became a part of the furniture. Sunscreen is a must to shield from the harsh Aussie sun (Noze is the chosen brand) to protect that cute little pink nose and the shaggy fur look provides an impeccable

sense of style adding to Mamma's Pup's adorability. Often mistaken for a cross-breed, being a thoroughbred schnauzer means there's always kind words exchanged from strangers when Mamma's Pup passes by. Enjoying the back of of the car in a special doggy seat next to the toddler booster seat makes family trips out a breeze. At home the couch (be it the adult or toddler one) is the chosen place to snooze, but that is the case with most doggos isn't it? Literally seeing everything with tunnel vision (just a slight albino affliction) is certainly no hinderance to getting up and down the stairs or stealing shoes. But not all pups report to work at Mammas HQ on a more than regular basis and this makes Mamma's Pup a truly unique canine companion.
